INCONEL® alloy 718 (UNS N07718/W.Nr. 2.4668) is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant nickel chromium material used at -423° to 1300°F. Typical composition limits are shown in Table 1. The age-hardenable alloy can be readily fabricated, even into complex parts. Its welding characteristics, especially its resistance to postweld cracking, are outstanding. The ease and economy with which INCONEL alloy 718 can be fabricated, combined with good tensile, fatigue, creep, and rupture strength, have resulted in its use in a wide range of applications. Examples of these are components for liquid fueled rockets, rings, casings and various formed sheet metal parts for aircraft and land-based gas turbine engines, and cryogenic tankage. It is also used for fasteners and instrumentation parts.
Heat Teating & Mechanical properties :

For most applications, INCONEL alloy 718 is specified as: solution annealed and precipitation hardened (precipitation hardening, age hardening, and precipitation heat treatment are synonymous terms). Alloy 718 is hardened by the precipitation of secondary phases (e.g. gamma prime and gamma double-prime) into the metal matrix. The precipitation of these nickel- (aluminum, titanium, niobium) phases is induced by heat treating in the temperature range of 1100 to 1500°F. For this metallurgical reaction to properly take place, the aging constituents (aluminum, titanium, niobium) must be in solution (dissolved in the matrix); if they are precipitated as some other phase or are combined in some other form, they will not precipitate correctly and the full strength of the alloy with not be realized. To perform this function, the material must first be solution heat treated (solution annealed is a synonymous term). Two heat treatments are generally utilized for INCONEL alloy 718: •Solution anneal at 1700-1850°F followed by rapid cooling, usually in water, plus precipitation hardening at 1325°F for 8 hours, furnace cool to 1150°F, hold at 1150°F for a total aging time of 18 hours, followed by air cooling. •Solution anneal at 1900-1950°F followed by rapid cooling, usually in water, plus precipitation hardening at 1400°F for 10 hours, furnace cool to 1200°F, hold at 1200°F for a total aging time of 20 hours, followed by air cooling. If the material is to be machined, formed, or welded, it typically is purchased in the mill annealed or stress relieved condition. The material is then fabricated in its most malleable condition. After fabrication, it can be heat treated as required per the applicable specification

INCONEL® (nickel-chromium-iron) alloy 600 (UNS N06600/W.Nr. 2.4816) is a standard engineering material for applications which require resistance to corrosion and heat. The alloy also has excellent mechanical properties and presents the desirable combination of high strength and good workability. The limiting chemical composition of INCONEL alloy 600 is shown in Table 1. The high nickel content gives the alloy resistance to corrosion by many organic and inorganic compounds and also makes it virtually immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. Chromium confers resistance to sulfur compounds and also provides resistance to oxidizing conditions at high temperatures or in corrosive solutions. The alloy is not precipitation hardenable; it is hardened and strengthened only by cold work. The versatility of INCONEL alloy 600 has led to its use in a variety of applications involving temperatures from cryogenic to above 2000°F (1095°C). The alloy is used extensively in the chemical industry for its strength and corrosion resistance. Applications include heaters, stills, bubble towers and condensers for processing of fatty acids; evaporator tubes, tube sheets and flaking trays for the manufacture of sodium sulfide; and equipment for handling abietic acid in the manufacture of paper pulp. The alloy's strength and oxidation resistance at high temperatures make it useful for many applications in the heat-treating industry. It is used for retorts, muffles, roller hearths and other furnace components and for heat-treating baskets and trays. In the aeronautical field, INCONEL alloy 600 is used for a variety of engine and airframe components which must withstand high temperatures. Examples are lockwire, exhaust liners and turbine seals. INCONEL alloy 600 is used in the electronic field for such parts as cathode-ray tube spiders, thyratron grids, tube support members and springs. The alloy is a standard material of construction for nuclear reactors. It has excellent resistance to corrosion by high-purity water, and no indication of chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking in reactor water systems has been detected. For nuclear applications, the alloy is produced to exacting specifications and is designated INCONEL alloy 600T

INCOLOY® alloy 825 (UNS N08825/W.Nr. 2.4858) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper, and titanium. The alloy’s chemical composition, given in Table 1, is designed to provide exceptional resistance to many corrosive environments. The nickel content is sufficient for resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. The nickel, in conjunction with the molybdenum and copper, also gives outstanding resistance to reducing environments such as those containing sulfuric and phosphoric acids. The molybdenum also aids resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The alloy’s chromium content confers resistance to a variety of oxidizing substances such as nitric acid, nitrates and oxidizing salt. The titanium addition serves, with an appropriate heat treatment, to stabilize the alloy against sensitization to intergranular corrosion. The resistance of INCOLOY alloy 825 to general and localized corrosion under diverse conditions gives the alloy broad usefulness. Applications include chemical processing, pollution control, oil and gas recovery, acid production, pickling operations, nuclear fuel reprocessing, and handling of radioactive wastes. Applications for alloy 825 are similar to those for INCOLOY alloy 020.

The INCOLOY® 800 series of alloys, invented by the Special Metals Corporation Group of Companies, is the result of years of monitoring and maintaining the ultimate chemical properties for high-temperature strength and resistance to oxidation, carburization and other types of high-temperature corrosion. Each one a refinement of the one before, these alloys have set the industry standard in hightemperature applications requiring optimum creep and rupture properties. INCOLOY nickel-iron-chromium alloy 800 was introduced to the market in the 1950s to fill the need for a heat- and corrosion-resistant alloy with a relatively low nickel content since nickel was, at the time, designated a “strategic” metal. Over the past forty years it has been widely used for its strength at high temperatures and its ability to resist oxidation, carburization, and other types of high-temperature corrosion. Applications include furnace components and equipment, petrochemical furnace cracker tubes, pigtails and headers, and sheathing for electrical heating elements. In 1963, the alloy was approved by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Committee, and the design stresses were published in Code Case 1325. For the first time, aluminum and titanium were listed as purposeful additions (at 0.15 to 0.60% each), and annealed material was differentiated from solution-annealed material. The new terms “Grade 1, annealed at approximately 1800°F (980°C)” and “Grade 2, annealed at approximately 2100°F (1150°C)” came into use. The Code Case covered Sections I and VIII, and listed design stresses for Grade 1 to 1100°F (593°C) and for Grade 2 to 1500°F (816°C).
