Monel 400 is a nickel-copper alloy having chemical composition perfectly suitable for applications given above. Monel 400 has significant characteristics supporting an application of flanges such as resistant to seawater and steam at high temperature, rapidly flowing brackish water or seawater, stress corrosion cracking in most freshwater, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when they are de-aerated and neutral and alkaline salt. It also offers some resistance to hydrochloric and sulfuric acids at modest temperatures and concentrations.

Monel 400 (Ni 67%) is made of a Nickel-Copper alloy that offers outstanding corrosion resistance in seawater. Monel 400 better withstands oxidation attack as compare to other copper based alloys and significantly prevents attack by sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid and alkalis. It offers outstanding resistance to steam and has good toughness that makes it an ideal material for use in the oil refining industries.

Monel alloy 400 can retain its hardness at the various temperature limits. In annealed condition, monel alloy can be used up to 1000oF or 480oC. It has medium to high strength, fine weldability and exceptional mechanical characteristics at subzero temperatures. Alloy 400 is more economical and superior than Nickel.

Monel K-500 (Ni 63%) offers superior strength and hardness to Monel 400, otherwise both have same properties and corrosion resistance. In some conditions, N05500 offers great resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Better properties of this precipitation hardened metal are due to addition of Aluminum (Al) and Titanium (Ti) elements into its main chemistry. The greater strength can be retained up to 1200oF. It keeps non-magnetic nature even below to -200oF that is advantageous for electronic operations.

Further exciting features of Monel Nickel alloy K-500 are fine spark resistance and excellent prevention of corrosion in seawater and chemical conditions such as salts, alkalis and non-oxidizing materials.

Ni-Cu alloy Monel K-500 is widely used in industrial applications as it is intact from intergranular cracking. Double mechanical strength than Metal 400. It keeps ductility and toughness even at low temperatures below -400oF.

Monel R405 Key AttributesCompositionally, Monel R405 is very similar to Monel 400, but with greater sulfur content added to produce sulfide inclusions, which act as chip breakers during machining processes. MONEL® nickel-copper alloy 400 (UNS N04400/ W.Nr. 2.4360 and 2.4361) is a solid-solution alloy that can be hardened only by cold working. It has high strength and toughness over a wide temperature range and excellent resistance to many corrosive environment. Alloy 400 is widely used in many fields, especially marine and chemical processing. MONEL® alloy K-500 (UNS N05500/ W.Nr. 2.4375) is a nickel-copper alloy which combines the excellent corrosion resistance of MONEL alloy 400 with the added advantages of greater strength and hardness. The increased properties are obtained by adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper base, and by heating under controlled conditions so that submicroscopic particles of Ni3 (Ti, Al) are precipitated throughout the matrix. The thermal processing used to effect precipitation is commonly called age hardening or aging. Typical applications for MONEL alloy K-500 products are chains and cables, fasteners and springs for marine service; pump and valve components for chemical processing; doctor blades and scrapers for pulp processing in paper production; oil well drill collars and instruments, pump shafts and impellers, non-magnetic housings, safety lifts and valves for oil and gas production; and sensors and other electronic components.
